This Mizuno MP-53 Irons is my first set of forged clubs. I have gone from a 12 handicap to a solid 5 over the last 3 years. I also began drawing my cast game improvement irons beyond what was playable. I wanted a cavity back, forged player's iron. After going to a demo day last summer, I hit all the major brand's irons that were in the above catagory. I had always heard mizuno irons had the best "feel", and let me tell you in my opinion this is absolutely true. These irons feel solid, smooth, and responsive at impact. You will feel a mis-hit in your hands as you will with all forged clubs, but the forgiveness in these irons will suprise you. A slight mis-hit still produces a decent shot. Hit it pure and its magic! The look is clean and classic, and you do not see any of the cavity at address. I ended up with dynamic gold s-300, and went 1 degree down on the lie to help reduce my draw. Even with the new grooves, I actually spin the higher lofted irons more on these clubs than my previous U-grooved irons. In line with its quest to package big iron forgiveness into a more appealing head-size, the MP-53 also boasts a 360° grind to lessen the effective width of sole and top edge. The shorter irons taper into a design similar to the smaller discount Mizuno MP-63 irons, with precision and control taking priority. The new sole grind makes the heads more workable. The finish was great, just as you would expect from Mizuno. The long irons really impressed me with the ease of use. This will be down largely to the progressive design often seen on these price point irons. Also, the short irons looked good from the top edge although perhaps a little deep in the face for me. The S300 shaft combined nicely with the head design and felt solid at impact. The Mizuno MP-53 irons suit those who like classic Mizuno heads but need added forgiveness and/or anyone looking for a balance of forgiveness and workability.
