Forget remembering to change the oil or keeping up with rising gas prices: The biggest struggle for car owners is keeping their car interior clean! It can be difficult to keep the clutter out when rushing from one place to the next. Here are a few tips on how to clean your car—and keep it that way. Invest In a Trash Can Without a designated receptacle, it's easy to stuff receipts in cup holders, throw paper bags in the backseat, and generally treat your whole interior like one big garbage can. You'll be much more likely to keep trash to a minimum with a proper place to put it. Something as simple as a plastic bag will work, but many car parts stores now carry lined, waterproof trash bags specifically made for different makes and models. Remember to take it with you and empty it when you get out, and you'll cut your car clutter in half. Keep Wipes Nearby Clean a little a lot of the time, and not the other way around. Brands like Armor All and Lexol make disposable wipes treated with their car-cleaning products that make it easy to touch up your interior. Keep them in the glove compartment or in the middle console for easy access. If you find yourself with a few seconds of free time, give your dash, doors, and other areas a quick wipe down. This can cut down on grimy build up, especially if you have kids. Get Organized Even the cleanest car can look messy if there are toys, cords, bags, and all sorts of other stuff strewn around. Make a place for everything, and remember to put it there each time. For example, remind yourself to put your phone charger in the front cup holder. It'll be out of the way, and you'll never lose it. For children, put a large tote in the back seat. (Some manufacturers make specially designed totes that specifically fit their models.) If it's nearby, it will be easy for children to put their toys there instead of on the floor. Don't Ignore the Seats Seats are by far the most difficult part of the interior to keep clean. If you have vinyl or leather seats, you're in luck. You can wipe down vinyl seats with all-purpose wipes, and many companies make similar wipes for leather seats. Upholstery is more difficult. Keep a stain stick in the car (like Tide To Go) and treat stains as soon as they happen. When you go to the car wash, take an extra five minutes to give your car a quick vacuum. Doing simple upkeep when you can will keep your seats fresh.
