Things to Ask Your Podiatrist

Health
Your podiatrist knows the secrets about your feet. Most of these issues he will routinely shared with you while relaying how to take the best care of your feet, but some things might need prompting. Let's see some of the things that your foot doctor knows about you, but is too nice to share without being asked by the patient.

First off, your foot doctor knows that your foot is bigger than you think. If prompted, he would tell you that when you buy shoes the sales person should be measuring your feet. Most of us have been wearing the same shoe size for the past ten, twenty, or thirty years, because no one bothers to take our measurements. The fact is, however, that feet tend to keep growing even through adulthood.

Another thing that you need to hear, but your podiatrist is too kind to tell you is that your feet really do stink, but they do not have to. What do we do to combat under arm odor? Obviously we use deodorant. This same great product can also be used on your feet. Just be sure to use the spray variety. Also on this subject, make sure that the insides of your shoes stay dry. Also, whenever you where shoes, be sure to wear socks with them, otherwise bacteria will form in your shoes and create stench.

Aside from stink, your foot doctor also knows about the dangers of pedicures. The fact of the matter is that these germ infested foot spas are practically keeping your doctor in business with the abundance of toenail infections that they are causing. If you must get a pedicure, be sure to go early in the morning before anyone else has dipped their bacteria-covered feet in those basins. Even if workers are religious about cleaning these areas, there are always drains and filters that get missed and are cesspools for bacteria.

Okay, now that you know to stay away from the foot salon, you should know that it is okay to buy toe separators, yoga toes, and bunion splints. These devices all might make your feet feel better for a while. The problem, however, is that they will not cure bunions or hammertoes. For that job you still need a podiatrist.

Believe it or not, another thing that your podiatrist can tell you is that the best place to buy your athletic shoes is a runner's specialty shop. Yes, it will probably cost more money, but the shoes are the highest quality available and the staff will know how to find the right shoe for you and make sure that they find one that fits properly.

Finally, your foot doctor knows those over-the-counter custom fit orthotics are really kind of a gimmick. Sure, if your feet need padding or arch support, they will help with these issues, but so will much less expensive foot insoles. Real orthotics are made in doctor offices and are actually molded to correct your individual foot issues. In essence, they are like eyeglasses for your feet, created to correct specific biomechanics of the way that you move.
