5 Tips for Better Grand Canyon Bus Tours

Travel & Tourism,Recreation & Leisure
Make 2014 a truly memorable year by taking a bus tour to the Grand Canyon. These "road trips" start from Las Vegas and pack a lot of value. To get you started, here are the first five things you need to know in order to have a terrific experience.

Morning Only

The first thing you need to know is that bus tours depart Las Vegas once a day around 7 a.m. That's it. If you can't make a particular day, book it for the one when you can. Remember, too, that 7 a.m. is your departure time, not your pick up time, which can be up to 1.5 hours prior to that.

Next up is determining the rim you want to visit. There are two. The West Rim and the South Rim. The West Rim is 120 miles away while the South is 277 miles to the east. The rims are quite different in terms of what to do and see. I suggest you go to the West Rim for thrills and adventure and the South for natural scenic beauty.

Another thing to know is that the West Rim is home to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. It's also known as the glass bridge. The structure costs nearly $30 million dollars to build and is an architectural marvel. Visitors love it because it lets them walk 70 feet past the edge of the rim. Once at that point, you'll be standing some 4,000 feet over the bottom!

South Rim

As for the South Rim, you'll want to make sure you pick a tour that gives you up to three hours inside the National Park. Once there, make sure you check out Mather Point and Yaki Point. Those are the two most famous lookouts at the South Rim and a crowd favorite. Then wrap up your trip at Bright Angel Lodge (great gift shop inside!).

Last key point I want to make is how long these trips are. Both are full day tours. Bus tours to the West Rim take 13 hours and South Rim trips take up to 15 hours. As such, I recommend that readers try not to make evening plans upon their return to Las Vegas. It's just not feasible. But if you do, go for something that starts at 11 p.m. Sounds late but remember that Las Vegas is the City that Never Sleeps.

Those are the 5 key things I wanted to impress on you as you go about booking your Grand Canyon bus tour. Of course, there are some additional details you'll find helpful, such as the fact that all bus tours include hotel pick up and drop off at your Las Vegas Strip hotel. Lunch, too, is included. In the case of the West Rim, it's a picnic-style box lunch while at South Rim it can be the same or a hot buffet style lunch.

Deals

As for booking your coach trip, I recommend that you do it at least 72 hours prior to your desired departure date. Personally, I prefer a week ahead of time but I'm a stickler when it comes to planning. And make sure you purchase it on the Internet. That's where the best prices are. Just make sure you complete the transaction online in order to qualify for the special Internet rate.
