The Titleist 913F fairway wood has been to the doctors for a bit of nip and tuck around the hosel area and it now looks very sleek at address.

As for the F, the head shape and the way it sits are exquisite – but it is very compact, so to me it’s much more of a club for use off a tight fairway lie than a tee. The clubhead is large and confidence-inspiring, as modern style demands, but the rounded, minimalist crown, the ordinary looking clubface, and the simple, dark-toned color palette has a very classic feel to it. It doesn’t feel retro or behind the times, but rather just a simple classic, stylish in any era.
Unlike the Titleist 913 d2 driver you can’t put a 913F head on a 910F shaft as the hosel fitting is not only shorter but also 0.4mm narrower. Having a smaller hosel also enables more weight to be moved around the head now to make it more forgiving. If you have a 910F you can expect to gain an extra 1 mph ball speed combined with 250 rpm less spin using the 913F fairway wood and that should gain you around 6 yards, which is significant.
Previously, this was a niche product, because only the strongest players could get a flight from it. Now it is a genuine alternative. “The purpose of the three-wood has evolved,” says Steve Pelisek, Titleist’s general manager. “It’s now more of a second driver than a fairway wood. Put a ball on a tee and it’s a much different dynamic than off the turf. You want low spin but not so extreme that it is unhittable.”
