What if al gore would have--should have--been awarded thepresidency in 2000? - Nicd Nimh Battery Ch

Business,Business News,Business Opportunities
First, Al Gore Al Gore was the winner in the 2000 if you look at how the Florida election washandled. The electronic voting purges and false allocation ofpeople to a felony list made thousands of people ineligible tovote. Putting the massive indiscretions and illegal processesaside, what would our world look like if Al Gore had been allowedto take the office he earned by the popular vote of the Americanpeople? Here was the outlook in August of 2000 by Democrats. "Thiselection will be about the big choices we have to make to secureprosperity that is broadly shared and progress that reaches allfamilies in this new American century.

In the year 2000, theDemocratic Party stands ready to meet that challenge and to buildon our achievements." Previous Republican administrations were characterized as sufferingand stagnant during the Bush-Quayle stint in Washington. Businesseswere failing. Jobs were disappearing. The welfare rolls swelled.Crime exploded in the streets. Hope and optimism were scarce.

MostAmericans felt that the American Dream was endangered - if notextinct. Clinton"s eight years in the Whitehouse brought backoptimism and a balanced budget. The Clinton years created the most jobs under a singleadministration; the first real wage growth in 20 years; the highesthome ownership rate ever; the lowest African-American andHispanic-American unemployment rates in American history; thelowest crime rate in 25 years; the lowest number of people onwelfare since the 1960s; the largest drop in poverty in nearly 30years; the lowest level of child poverty in 20 years. And after 15painful years when the rich were getting richer and the poorgetting poorer, "America was finally growing together insteadof growing apart." Cognitive Neuroscientific Approach One of the most salient questions in considering what the world belike if Gore had been elected is would President Gore"sadministration have prevented 9-11 and subsequently the costlyinvasion and war in Iraq. The 9-11 Commission"s report argues9-11 was preventable.

The questions the Commission had to President Bush and Condoleezza Rice Condoleezza Rice were why didn"t the administration take more action earlieragainst al-Qaida before Sept. 11? Also, there were discrepanciesbetween Rice"s public statements and the formerCounterterrorism Chief Richard A. Clark, who accused theadministration of ignoring terrorists" threats reported inearly 2001. Would Al Gore have recognized the urgency of Clark"s warningsand thereby put into place mechanisms to identify terrorists in theU.S., securing sufficient interventions to protect airlines fromterrorists entering the country? Suppositions on what Al Gore wouldor would not have done are controversial, and there are manyopinions on the subject.

For the purposes of this report, neuroscience research offers insight into how liberals versusconservatives differ in thinking style and problem solving. In an article in Discover Magazine, the author says studies bothpast and present show liberals are more likely to respond to"informational complexity, ambiguity, and novelty." Thestudies include the role of the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC)showing it is more active in the liberal brain in conflictmonitoring, error detection, pattern recognition/and evaluation, pedantic and logic-driven thinking. Liberals are flexible thinking, working through alternate possibilities before committing to achoice. Furthermore, even after a choice they accept newinformation and are likely to consider it. This is basically thescientific method approach.

Read the full scientific report here . Conservatives, conversely, are more likely to have an enlargedamygdala; therefore, they process information initially usingemotions. Conservatives respond to threatening situations with moreaggression than do liberals and are more sensitive to threateningfacial expressions. This heightened sensitivity to emotional facessuggests that individuals with conservative orientation mightexhibit differences in brain structures associated with emotionalprocessing such as the amygdala. When Conservatives are confronted with an ambiguous situation, theytend to process the information with an emotional response.

Thismakes them less likely to change later, as they prefer thestability of predictability. President Bush chose to declare the "War on Terror" inIraq which was an aggressive, predictable action with an expectedoutcome to proffer disaster capitalism. Heeding the warnings ofRichard Clark would have been a more ambiguous choice and wouldhave triggered some anxiety. The liberal mind and personality typethat Gore would have brought to the presidency, being thelogic-driven, pattern evaluation monitoring personality, wouldlikely have chosen change rather than stability and would haverespected and taken seriously Clark"s early warnings.

Theefficacy of terrorist prevention outcomes would have beenunpredictable, unlike war, but liberals don"t mind change; infact, they invite change. So in this "what if" article, Al Gore prevented 9-11 byearly interventions, albeit new, untested territory, that kept usout of an unpaid war that cost $804,131,707,600 and the costs arestill rising and most importantly saved thousands of American andIraqi lives. For this writer, the achievement would have stoodalone in high regard. Conclusion "War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing." The1960s Edwin Starr Edwin Starr anti-Vietnam war song and chant reminds us of the frustrating andmany times futile nature of war. The humanitarian endeavors tolessen the suffering of others and secure the defenses of the U.S.have been arbitrarily presented to the American people using shock doctrine in order to justify U.S.

engagements. The last time the U.S.declared war was World War II and since then has had militaryengagements in Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Cuba, Angola, Panama,Laos, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. Most of our post-WWIIendeavors did not go as planned either, because the country was notfully committed and/or the scope of the mission kept expanding. The world is better off without Sadam Hussein, but the cost of warto the Iraqi people was tremendous in lives lost.

Their countryremains in ruins and Iraq still suffers from unresolved internalconflict. It is estimated 500,000 Iraqis were killed leaving, 2million widows and 4.5 million orphans. The 9-11 disaster andsubsequent war in Iraq was preventable, and based on the cognitiveneurological profile of the liberal Gore as president, the U.S.would not have entered into the conflict. There is one caveat to an Al Gore presidency.

If he had takenoffice in 2000 and been re-elected in 2004 as postulated here, would Barack Obama, the first African American president, have beenelected in 2008? After eight years of growth with the ClintonAdministration, the country was poised to elect another Democrat, and history will show eventually that Gore did win in theory;therefore, it is possible to have 16 years of Democratics in theWhitehouse. If you like writing about U.S. politics and the 2012 campaign, enter "The American Pundit" competition. Allvoices is awarding four $250 prizes each monthbetween now and November. These monthly winners earn eligibilityfor the $5,000 grand prize, to be awarded after the Novemberelection.
