Plusnet is based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, although it now offers services to clients across the UK. Plusnet as a company has been around since 2004, but what most people do not know is that despite working as a separate entity, it is owned by BT, and has been since 2007. Some say that it was the BT takeover which allowed Plusnet to begin getting its solutions to clients outside of its power base. It has now become one of the top five ISP suppliers in the United Kingdom, and with its marketing campaign where the Yorkshire comedian stands about trying to talk while a band plays, or his dad rides past naked (you know the one), Plusnet can claim to be very well-known, and well-liked, by customers up and down the nation. There are a lot of Plusnet reviews online. The vast majority of them are extremely positive and have helped to increase the popularity of the brand across our nation. We are always eager to see the little guy doing well, and on the face of it, Plusnet seemed like the under-dogs. When the under-dog can also provide a great service, they become even more worthy of praise and consideration as a viable shortlist option; sorry if I broke the illusion of under-dog-ness. I could not write this piece without mentioning BT. Low prices Plusnet has pitched itself in the market as the name you can trust and rely on. They offer ‘good, sincere broadband’. This is one of the business's most powerful pros, and Plusnet has led the way in guaranteeing that all its costs are stated and guaranteed from the beginning. The most affordable Internet package, Essentials ADSL, costs you between £5.49 and £8.49 per month, but this does give you a very basic level of connectivity. It restricts you to 10GB per month on data allowance, which is not exactly a vast amount. With line rental the monthly cost of this package is about £20. The next step up is Unlimited Broadband, which is available for £12.49 per month with 16MBps in terms of speed. There is currently a deal on this package offering twelve months at £2.50. That is twelve months of an eighteen month contract at a ridiculously low price. Over the eighteen month contact this package is even cheaper than Essentials. A step further takes you to 40GB on the allowance, but with a higher speed of 38MBps. This is available at £18.49 per month and of course used fibre optic broadband technology. Unlimited fibre costs about £22 per month, and has up to speeds of 76MB. All these packages do require that you have a phone line from BT, or Plusnet themselves, so you can expect the standard £15 or so to be charged on top of whatever package you go for. If you look online at any Plusnet reviews, the overriding impression you get is one of satisfaction and almost happiness. They are obviously doing something right somewhere along the line. UK Contact Centres We all want the reassurance of knowing that if we have a problem it is not going to be some poor little guy in India struggling to sort it out. This became a habitual tendency in the 90’s for British corporations and is the ultimate cliché way for any clueless CEO to try to cut costs. Plusnet have Yorkshire people, so that is alright innit?! Customer Service So what do the Yorkshire lads and lasses give you? A cheerful and knowledgeable level of customer service which is sadly lacking in so many other areas of business. They have clearly spent money on training these people. When I call up someone to sort out a problem for me, I do not need them to ask how I am or what I had for dinner last night; what I want from them is to understand my problem and sort it out. We are never going to be mates, so why pretend we care about each other? They find the perfect balance between friendliness and competence which some companies just do not seem to get. Traffic Control System The traffic management system which Plusnet employ means that you are never likely to suffer from a poor quality connection during the peak or at any other times. It does this by managing and prioritising the tasks which the broadband is undertaking; that is about it really. Why would you need to know any more? The Competition Let us just remember that Plusnet are not a TV provider. Their focus is solely on the broadband side of things. As a result it really is not worth comparing them to Sky, BT or Virgin Media. If you are going for a package through one of these guys, it will usually be because of the TV channels they are offering as well as the broadband speed they are capable of. When it comes to stand –alone broadband, they do not compete with Plusnet; nobody does. This is because Plusnet focus on what they can do, and they do it well. While their marketing campaigns give off the impression that they are a bit of a simple company for a simple man, there is no doubt that they know exactly what they are doing. They have found a niche and have exploited it effectively. If OFCOM approve, that should be all you need to know. And a look through the Plusnet reviews on the OFCOM website tells you that they rate these guys very highly indeed. To Conclude Yes they might not be the most fashionable or exciting brand, but they are not trying to be. You want broadband which works well and is fast; that is what they do. It is simple on the face of it, but behind the scenes they clearly invest very heavily in technology and in training for their staff. As their popularity increases they will no doubt remain established at the top of the tree. The prices are great, the speeds are consistent regardless and they are a true British company flourishing and mixing it with the bigger boys. In fact they are not mixing it with them, they are bullying them right now; much to the amusement of the BT board no doubt. Phil Turner wanted to have a look at some Plusnet reviews before he opted to go with one of their broadband options. Much to his delight, most reviews offered great praise for the company.
