As we are in the winter season the days are short and dark, not the most pleasant sight to wake up to each morning. However as the mornings and evenings are dark people are neglecting their personal safety by not wearing appropriate luminous clothing whether that is in the work place or out and about in the local area. The dark nights mean poor visibility therefore as expected the number of work related accidents are higher in the winter months. You yourself can implement a number of methods in order to keep yourself safe in the workplace. The easiest thing you can do is wear a safety jacket as these are bright and colourful so you will stand out in the dark, meaning the risk of you being involved in an on site accident will be reduced. For example if you worked in the construction sector and there was heavy machinery being operated the jackets would make the machinery drivers more aware and alert of others around them. Another item that is easily sourced and inexpensive is safety boots, the reason I am suggesting safety boots is because they could save your life especially if you work in the construction sector. Safety boots are the best protection for the feet as they are reinforced with steel therefore if something does happen to drop on your foot you will barely feel it. If you did not wear these boots and something dropped on your foot the damage would be horrific anything from broken toes to shattered bones! On another issue the workplace needs to implement rules and regulations in regards to health and safety in particular lighting. As many businesses have car parks, warehouses and yards these need to be sufficiently lit so that all employees are kept safe at all times. The most used measure is floodlights as these lights can cover a large area with very few lights meaning less cost for the business. The reason the floodlights cover such a large zone is because they are a high intensity light with extremely powerful bulbs. Many work places are required by law to supply safety clothing to its employees for free as it is their duty to keep employees safe within the workplace. These laws will vary depending on your country, department and sector but if you are unsure always ask as you could be entitled to the goods. With rules and regulations getting stricter as the years go on it is best to implement safety from day one as something simple like a jacket or boots could save your life some day.
