If you are in the market for an automobile you may want to re-calibrate your current way of thinking. Why not buy something more functional, more powerful, and more comfortable. Of course I am talking about a truck. Not only are they some of the most fun vehicles to drive, but used trucks actually have a lot going for them when it comes to the automotive market. From factors like supply and demand to space and horsepower, these vehicles check off all of the boxes for many consumers out there, but a lot of them are too concerned with staying inside their own little boxes to realize it. The biggest retort to buying used trucks always seems to be the gas mileage, or lack thereof. The funny thing is, however, that these vehicles are actually right in line with full size automobiles when it comes to estimated miles per gallon. Thanks in large part to technological advances, both mid and full size trucks now generally average about 18 miles per gallon in the city and 21 on the highway. Full size automobiles average that same 18 miles per gallon on city streets and they are marginally better at 22 miles per gallon on the highway. That slim advantage is simply not worth it when you consider the added space, cargo, and versatility that trucks have to offer. Perhaps the perceived cost of used trucks has kept you from investigating the opportunity for buying one. The fact of the matter, however, is that pick-ups, crossovers and sports utility vehicles are consistently in the top five declining segments of the automobile market. With demand being down, it has caused supply to be up, and there are some really good deals out there if you keep your eyes open. A couple more things to consider when thinking about cost are the durability and longevity that accompany pick-ups. Generally speaking, these vehicles can easily last well past the 300,000 mile mark. This is more than 100,000 miles greater than some of the most dependable cars out there. Needless to say, even if you do pay a little more for a pick-up then you would for a traditional automobile; it will last far longer and be well worth the added cost. Another item to think about in terms of value and cost is the resale value of used trucks. If you purchase one of these vehicles and take good care of it, you can expect a much greater return than you could for a car of a similar age and mileage. Simply put, since pick-ups last longer, more people are willing to pay good money for them even if they are well over 100,000 miles or they are not even late models. The cool thing about these vehicles is that there is always a certain segment of the population that is always interested in them. The people out there who like to use their vehicles as investments to help get work done. The ones that always need to haul something because they always have some type of project going on. They understand the value that comes with a pick-up, and they will pay good money for yours even if it is up there in years.
