How Oolong Tea Proved To Contribute To Weight Loss

Tea has long been connected with a healthy lifestyle. Many forms of tea can reduce health risks and help maintain a proper weight. When compared to several other drink options such as soda, coffee, and sugary artificially flavored beverages, tea is definitely the best choice when looking to lose weight.

More natural oolong tea has been proven to help with weight loss. This semi-fermented tea may be more effective than green tea. It increases the body’s fat burning abilities and reduces cholesterol levels. It works much like a diuretic by promoting bowel movements and aiding in cleansing the liver. Tea alone won’t make an individual lose weight, but it greatly helps when combined with a nutritious diet and a proper exercise program.

This form of tea has a pleasant taste, and it can be served hot or cold. It is also an affordable drink that comes in many varieties. It works because it is a semi-oxidized tea. Oxidation increases the tea’s concentration of caffeine. Caffeine will stimulate the metabolism, helping one to lose weight.

When to Drink It

It is recommended to drink two cups of this tea per day. The tea can be steeped between 30 seconds and five minutes. This will depend on the individual’s personal preference.

The best time to drink a cup is 30 minutes to an hour before a workout, walk, or yoga. It can also be drunk in the afternoon to help satisfy cravings while boosting energy levels.

If one drinks this tea before a meal, their insulin levels will rise. This means the body will burn fat. Drinking any form of Chinese or Japanese herbal teas approximately 15 minutes before a meal increases the body’s energy expenditure by 10%. If drunk after eating a meal, the body will burn 10% of the fats. In addition, the polyphenols found in tea will aid in the digestion process of fats.

The Difference in Teas

All forms of true tea come from the Camellia Sinensis plant. This plant protects itself with the chemical compound polyphenol. These compounds have the same benefits as antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables.

How the tea is processed is what separates oolong tea from green tea. All tea starts out green. Green tea is heated. This stops the natural oxidation in the leaves. After the leaves dry, they are rolled in order to break the cell structures. In oolong, this tea’s leaves are allowed to naturally oxidize. They are not broken. Cell structures remain intact. The result is a tea with its own set of beneficial properties.

Research

The Chinese have used this tea in weight control for a long time. The 1998 Chinese study proved that when 102 females drank this tea continually for six weeks, they saw reduced body weight.

A 2001 study by the US Agriculture Research Services Diet and Human Laboratory measured how this tea affects energy expenditure. Twelve men were given four different beverages over three days. One drank this tea while the others were given caffeinated water, half strength teas, and plain water. The results showed that those drinking full strength tea had three percent higher energy levels. Their bodies fat burning ability increased by 12%.

Conclusion

This tea is proven to help in weight loss. It increases the body’s energy levels for as much as two hours, and it uses fat as the body’s energy source. It also helps by stopping the body from absorbing unwanted carbohydrates and fats. Used in addition to a balanced diet and exercise, this tea will greatly help in any weight loss program.
