Each year, millions of people travel to Grand Canyon National Park to take in its spectacular natural beauty. A good portion of those visitors come from the Las Vegas area as part of a vacation to the region, but they don't want to drive from Vegas to the canyon by car. The Spectacular Natural Landmark The Grand Canyon was designated a National Park about a hundred years ago. The canyon is about a mile deep, 277 miles long, and about 18 miles wide at its broadest point. The western rim of the canyon is on land owned by the Hualapai Indian tribe. It is also the location of the Grand Canyon National Park Visitor Center. The center plays an informational film about the Grand Canyon that is called, "Journey of Wonder." Fees There's an $25 admission fee to the National Park, and some of the activities inside the Park charge a separate, additional fee. Some activities and attractions are included in certain tour packages but they can also be purchased separately. Visitors can bring a service animal, but no pets are allowed inside the Park's gates. It takes about five hours to drive to the Park from Vegas since it is around 220 miles away. That is part of the reason coach tours are so popular. A bus tour is much more relaxing and comfortable and provide the ability to enjoy the scenery along the way. Plus, the tours give the chance to enjoy other activities too so they are much more than simple transportation to the canyon and back. For one thing, you will be accompanied by an entertaining and informational tour guide that makes the drive a lot more enjoyable. You'll also be pleased to know most of the tour operators offer a free shuttle service to the hotels on the Strip so you don't have to worry about getting to the tour departure point. For example, if your tour begins at the McCarran International Airport, the shuttle takes you back and forth from there to your hotel in Vegas. Ultimately, you get to decide on the tour you want to take since you can pick one that merely offers transportation to the National Park, or you can pick on the offers additional attractions, sightseeing opportunities, and adventures.
