Defensive Cockroach Control Style for Home Security

Family & Parenting,Health,Home Improvement
The inside of a home could be a haven for insects like ants and roaches if it is not kept clean and free of debris. Areas with food, water and dark spaces to hide are ideal environments for roaches and ants to live.Bugs often come in from outside, so controlling this area is your first line of defense.

If possible, it's always best to use natural methods of cockroach control first since you don't want to jeopardize the health of your family and pets by exposing them to pesticides. Here are some natural ways to repel roaches if you don't have a large infestation:

1. Did you know catnip acts as a natural roach repellent and is also nontoxic to humans and pets? Try filling small sachet bags with catnip and leave them in areas where you would expect roaches to congregate.

2. Invest in some roach traps. Roach traps are small boxes with a sticky residue attached to the inside. Once the roach enters the box, he's unable to exit and will eventually starve. These are suitable for small infestations but probably won't be sufficient if you harbor a large roach population.

4. Another technique that's been shown to work is mixing boric acid with a bit of brown sugar and placing it on high surfaces. Don't place it at ground level for two reasons. Roaches prefer high places and boric acid can be toxic to pets if ingested.

5. If you spot a roach, spray him with a bottle of soapy water. Soapy water will kill roaches in a matter of minutes.

6. Use a steam cleaning to rid your home of roaches. Steam can be sprayed into openings where roaches enter and leave your home which should kill any roaches present. This may best be done by a professional.

Prevent ants and roaches from entering your home with these helpful tips:

Seal gaps around doors, windows, and where utility lines enter the home. Screen or seal drain lines and sewer vents that lead to your home. Keep areas around your home clear of thick, dead vegetation which outdoor ants and roaches like to live in. Seal your home by keeping door and window screens in good repair. To create a barrier against insects, keep areas where insects like to hide away from your home. Keep mulch, shrubs and trees at least one foot away from the walls of your home and stack firewood away from the sides of the house. Fill tree holes, which outdoor insects can use as nesting sites, with cement.

Keep the trash can closed, clean, and emptied regularly. On top and beneath the refrigerator is warm and attracts insects. Clean these areas regularly, as crumbs tend to collect here. Ants and roaches tend to gather and hide near water, so be sure to repair any leaks beneath the sink, and on the sink top, immediately. Ants and roaches tend to gather beneath the baseboards and underneath the stove, so be sure to clean this area regularly and keep it crumb and liquid free. All food should be stored in glass, plastic or metal containers with airtight lids in order to keep insects out. All drawers, shelves and cabinets should be properly lined and damage should be repaired immediately to ensure insects aren’t hiding here. Keep lining paper flat so that insects cannot hide beneath it.

Ants and roaches like moisture, so areas like the sink (on top and below), behind the toilet, and near the tub should be regularly inspected for leaks and condensation. Any cracks should be sealed right away. Keep the trash can closed, clean and emptied regularly. Keep wet towels and toothbrushes out of drawers and cabinets so that it does not attract insects.

Regularly inspect behind loose baseboards or molding strips, behind mirrors and pictures, and in closets and bookcases. Food often collects in and around sofas and chairs. Be sure to keep these areas clean and check them often for pests. Insects can hide in firewood. Be sure to inspect all firewood for insects before bringing it into your home. Insects like ants and roaches like warm places and may gather behind television sets or other electronics. Regularly check these areas.

If the above measures don't work to kill roaches and eliminate them from your home , you may have to consider using a professional exterminator. See reliable professionals Cockroach Control Auckland for best results
