The big question is which focal plane to choose for rifle scopes? The choice becomes easy when you know about both the first and second focal planes. Each rifle scope irrespective of brand, has its own purpose. There are certain scopes in the commercial market that are considered multi-purpose while there are others which might not fulfill all your expectations. Reticle plays an important role in deciding the fate of a rifle scope. Hence, it is necessary to know about them. A good quality rifle scope will ensure that the quality of the glass is impressive. As far as reticles are concerned, all the modern devices are manufactured in two different ways. Firstly, there are rifle scopes where the reticles are placed in the first focal plane (FFP). For tactical shooters and hunters, these devices are quite useful. Such scopes will allow you contestant values. However, these models are a little expensive when compared to the other kind. The second type of scopes have reticles in the second focal plane (SFP). For those shooters who do not want their reticles to alter after shooting, these are perfect. The reticle does not clutter the image at maximum power settings. Now comes the construction of these reticles. The FFP scopes have their reticles set in the front of the erector tube or the magnification lenses. The reticle is very near the centre of the turret housing. When the magnification is increased, the reticle increases in size along with the image you are looking at. The SFP, on the other hand, has its reticles on the rear of the erector tube or rearward of the magnification lenses. When the magnification of the scope is increased the image size increases, but the reticle size remains the same. The value of the reticle subtensions change as a result. Benefits of FFP Scopes:
