The mechanical components, which control relative motion and reduce the friction between moving components are known as bearings. They come in a variety of designs. Some of them give a free linear movement of a moving piece. Others provide free rotation around a fixed axis. Still, others are designed to prevent movement by means of arranging the vectors of the normal forces, which stand on the components that are moving. In general, commercial Houston bearings are classified based on the type of motion, operation or directions of forces applied to the different parts. At times, companies use specially designed bearings to reduce their operating expenses. Commercial bearings used by the petrochemical industry increase the downtime of essential equipment such as air compressors, gas compressors, blowers, centrifugal pumps and ventilators. Bearings such as these have the capability to withstand challenging environments wherein pumps and compressors are operating and also, regular contact with oils, chemicals and gases such as heat, refrigerants and ammonia. There are some bearings that are classified into angular contact bearings and cylindrical roller bearings. They have the ability to carry high load and are designed to support the helical rotors used in gas and air compressors. Moreover, they can tolerate high temperatures and exposure to chemicals. In comparison to conventional bearings, cylindrical roller bearings’ dynamic load capacity can reach up to a maximum of thirty percent while HPS angular bearing’ capacity can reach as much as twenty percent. As a consequence, these types of bearings can have a considerably high fatigue life. This feature gives the advantage of prolonged operation to users without any setbacks, reducing the frequency of overhauls. To significantly improve the operation of centrifugal pumps, deep-groove ball bearings can be used. As compared to regular deep groove bearings, the HR type of commercial Houston bearings is designed to facilitate bugger roller elements without sacrificing the usual outer size, according to ISO standards. The latest design of HR bearings lets them improve dynamic load ratings by about 7% to 19%, depending on the size, increasing their ISO life by 22 to 68. HR bearings have the ability to significantly boost a pump’s operating life and reduce its downtime without any problems. Another type is the Anti-Creep bearings that enhance a pump’s performance without spending too much. They are easy to install and do not require special machining of housings. These bearings help in eliminating the creep problem, which is a result of very high loads on the pumps’ driving shafts. They help in preventing the occurrence of creep and resulting damage of the pump’s shaft that accommodates the bearings. Aside from giving improved MTBF for pumping applications and typical compression, commercial bearings used in the petrochemical industry particularly address tough and challenging pumping tasks, as well. The bearings included in the equipment, which are used for the pumping of liquid nitrogen, are built to work up to a speed of 3600RPM as it remains immersed in gas that has a temperature of -162C while the cryogenic agent provides the lubrication it needs. These commercial Houston bearings have to be made out of a material that meets the precise conditions of lubrication. Also, it should have a low resistance to abrasion. Their balls plus inner and outer rings are made from a special type of steel that is corrosion resistant. To maintain its dimensional stability, this steel undergoes a heat treatment at different temperatures. Fluororesin and other self-lubricating materials are used to make the casings of bearings, allowing the bearings to be lubricated even if the temperature is low.
