Cisco updated Cisco Certification paths and naming of its technologies certifications in conjunction with industry updates again, as we are already aware of. IT industry being highly volatile, IT professionals should be ready with the changes every now and then and not sit comfortably with the already known technologies. Cisco has again updated its main base - associate-level Routing and Switching certification. This was previously called as CCNA has now become CCNA Routing and Switching certification. However, the changes are not to make things difficult for the professionals, in fact new changes occurred to incorporate industry updates and technology developments. Moreover, the content that has been updated and revamped only makes up for only 25 percent of the CCNA exam. Which path to take? Guidance CCNA certification exam requires one to take-up one of the two paths. One has two definite paths. One way is to analyze and divide the exams into two exams. The other one is to take a single composite exam. The former is better than the latter one. Mostly people choose to go for the easier study. Each one who aims to become a CCNA certification needs to get own tested and convenient method to attain it. Among the above mentioned ways, neither path is better than the other one. In case one wants to take the split path, then one needs to clear two different exams - • 100-101 – Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1 (ICND1) & • 200-101 – Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 2 (ICND2) For the other path only one test or exam is required that is - 200-120 – Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices (Composite). The older version of the exam has already been retired on September 30, 2013, so for all those who are seeking CCNA R&S certification exam, the above mentioned exams are only relevant. New inclusions in the curriculum Cisco updated associate-level exams and technology specific objects are kept in their respective tests. CCNA with this upgradation has compartmentalized technologies strategically, for example – wireless is covered only in CCNA Wireless and voice in CCNA Voice. So the strategy was to remove these topics from the original CCNA certification curriculum, so that it could leave space for more specific core topics on Routing and Switching. Main updation in the recent modules: • IPv6 (OSPFv3 and EIGRP for IPv6) • First Hop Redundancy Protocols (FHRP) including Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP), Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) and Gateway Load Balancing Protocol (GLBP) • Network Time Protocol • Password Recovery • Software (IOS) Licensing • Netflow • Syslog and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) One may experience more troubleshooting in the exam that what was previously there covered.
