LOS ANGELES - A 22-year-old robbery suspect who carjacked a vehicletoday and took the victim with him remained at large, police said. Authorities believe Edgar Gomez was one of four suspects involvedin an armed robbery about 1 a.m. Wednesday at La Cienega Boulevardand Smiley Drive in Culver City, said Ron Iizuka of the Culver CityPolice Department. Culver City investigators followed a car to La Brea Avenue andVenice Boulevard Wednesday where two occupants were detained andanother ran away, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los AngelesPolice Department. Culver City detectives were conducting surveillance in the 4700block of Lomita Street around 1 p.m. today when they spotted Gomezgetting into a car. "Culver City detectives followed the vehicle to Adams Boulevard andSycamore Avenue where the car stopped," Herrera said. Gomez ran through a pedestrian tunnel under the Santa Monica (10)Freeway, and two occupants in the vehicle were detained, Herrerasaid. Shortly after the detectives lost sight of Gomez, CaliforniaHighway Patrol officials received reports of a male on thewestbound Santa Monica Freeway trying to enter vehicles slowed inheavy traffic. "Witnesses reported a man matching Gomez's description enter avehicle driven by a female," Herrera said. "Based on what witnessessaw, it appeared the female driver was forced to drive away fromthe area."
