Once certified, estheticians go on to work in the field of medical esthetics, usually working alongside a dermatologist. An esthetician reports directly to the dermatologist, assisting with matters of acne, age spots, and hyperpigmentation. Hair Stylist The most well known graduate of cosmetology schools is a hair stylist. They are able to cut and color hair, add extensions, and permanently straighten hair. Stylists are also very knowledgeable about products that will help maintain the client's cut, color and general hair health. Beauty school programs can last anywhere from two weeks to a 18 months depending on each state's individual board requirements. Tuition can range from $5000 to $25,000. While the tuition may seem a bit steep for the small amount of time a person is spending in actual class, the return is well worth it. A full-time spa or salon professional usually averages $48,000 a year. Plus, that number can grow, depending on how hard the client works to build up their own repeating clientele.
