Five options for Kilimanjaro trekking

Travel & Tourism
Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s tallest free standing mountain, measuring 5895 meters above sea level. It is also one of the greatest touristic attractions in Tanzania, being quite the appeal for audacious tourists in search of a lifetime adventure. There are several Kilimanjaro trekking routes available for those who wish to stand on the roof of Africa. There are also many travel agencies and tour operators that organize treks to the summit of the mountain, which comes as a great advantage to tourists, as they can enjoy this rewarding experience with the help of proficient and experienced guides. Another benefit of climbing this mountain on organized trekking routes is that no previous experience is required or special equipment, just a good fitness level and determination. If you want to climb Kilimanjaro and experience the real local feel, then you should choose the Marangu route, as it is the only one where you can sleep in huts. However, this route is less popular and not many tourists are able to complete it.

For experienced climbers or trekkers, the Umbwe route is a great choice, offering the most spectacular scenery, but it is a difficult route, which is why it’s only recommended to more experienced tourists. It is also the route that will provide you with the highest level of privacy, as there are not many people climbing the mountain on this route. When it comes to Kilimanjaro trekking, the most popular route is the Machame one, being quite safe and allowing tourists to experience not only impressive views, but also a variety of habitats. The Lemosho route is probably the most interesting one of them all, providing a very balanced trek and amazing wildlife. Last, but not least, comes the Rongai route, which is also very private, as there are almost no people on it and provides the highest chances of wildlife encounters do to that fact. Whatever route you choose to climb Kilimanjaro, it is important to opt for organized tours and trekking, so that you can enjoy the mountain with the help of experienced guides, who can keep you safe and help you discover everything that the mountain has to offer.

Kilimanjaro trekking is highly dependent on the seasons and there are regularly 2 rainy seasons, which you might want to avoid. One is from the middle on November to the middle of December and the other comprises April and May. Although wet months making climbing more difficult, they also increase the chances of snow in the higher altitudes, which will definitely offer you a more dramatic experience. If you are really planning on such an adventure for your next vacation, you should really do some research before hand and get more details about each route, in order to know what to expect. You should also contact a travel agency or tour operator and ask for quotes and time frames for their available routes, as these too may influence your choice.
