Prototypes are being exhibited at the SPIE Photonics West 2012 event (booth 5307) in San Francisco (24-26 January).<p>Based on the same module platform developed for their QLD0593 Series high-power, compact green laser modules, QD Laser and the University of Tokyo have extended the wavelength band to the yellow-green and orange visible color regions. QD Laser and the University of Tokyo have finely tuned both the oscillation wavelength of DFB (distributed feedback)-based near-infrared single-mode lasers as well as the operating wavelength of PPLN (periodically poled LiNbO3) crystal for wavelength conversion to 561nm and 594nm, before combining them in recently developed compact modules of about 0.5cc in volume (5.6mm x 3.8mm x 22 mm). Normally, diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers are used in the green-yellow to orange wavelengths. QD Laser says that the new semiconductor-based modules enable great compactness, high stability in power and wavelength, and high-speed modulation, providing a common platform for a wide variety of application areas, particularly in life science and biomedical applications such as florescence microscopes, spectral analysis and gas sensing.
