Range Rover is synonymous with functional luxury. In fact, in the rare event that Queen Elizabeth II drives, she is seen driving a one of these luxury vehicles. Baby Prince George was famously driven home from the hospital by his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, in one. Perhaps it is only appropriate that Zara Phillips, Prince William’s first cousin, was the first to receive an Evoque, Land Rover’s entry into the popular cross-over SUV market, when the car was introduced in July 2011. Since then, the Evoque has become one of the best-selling models offered by Range Rover; in 2012 and 2013, more than 1/3 of all of their models sold were Evoques. In creating the this crossover, the company set out to develop a more environmentally conscious vehicle, and indeed, it is the most sustainable model in the line. The Evoque delivers on performance, yet still has reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. In fact, the Vehicle Certification Agency completed a cradle to grave certification study on this car. The vehicle is one of the most efficiently produced vehicles in the world. It is built using recycled materials, its unique ventilation system reduces electricity consumption and the tailgate is made with fewer components. Thus, from the beginning of the manufacturing process until the time the vehicle is disposed of, its environmental impact is minimal among cars. The Evoque is available in a staggering seven models: the Pure, Pure Plus, Pure Premium, the Prestige, the Dynamic, and the Autobiography. Additionally, a four seat convertible option is available, and in 2012, Range Rover introduced a Convertible Concept. This crossover is fully customizable, with an array of colors, interiors and finishes available. The vehicle features a cabin length sunroof and a touch screen entertainment system. New for 2014 is a nine speed automatic gearbox, replacing the six speed gearbox of previous years’ models. This new feature helps the Evoque’s fuel efficiency. Although designed as an on road option for Range Rover drivers, the nine speed design allows the car to tow or transition to off road conditions. The system includes adaptive shift, so the car matches the driver’s driving style. Also new for 2014 is a Park Exit feature, which gets the driver out of a parallel parking spot, and Perpendicular Park, which ensures that the car is parked in the center of a parking spot. Both of these features help protect the body of the car as well as your surroundings. The Evoque has received a number of awards and accolades since it was introduced in 2011, including 2012 North American Truck of the Year, 2012 world Design Car of the Year, Motor Trend’s SUV of the year in 2011, and Top Gear’s Car of the Year and SUV of the Year. With the new 2014 features, the Evoque is certain to draw new followers. This beautiful vehicle is an option for anyone looking to take the legendary performance of the Range Rover onto land.
