The property market in Xiamen has seen an unprecedented boom in May despite house-purchase restrictions, reports Strait Herald. According to the latest data released by the Xiamen Municipal Resources & Housing Administrative Bureau, as of 29th May a total of 4,305 apartments were sold in Xiamen in the month, hitting an all-time high on monthly sales since May 2009 when 4,220 apartments were sold. Fueled by price-off promotions after Spring Festival this year, the Xiamen property market started to pick up following six-months of stagnant sales. Meanwhile, the trading volume in the outlying districts of Xiamen has seen a substantial increase, accounting for over 70% of the total transaction volume in Xiamen in the first five months of this year. Small-sized apartments with low prices were still the most popular with house-purchasers. In terms of house purchase group, the house-purchase proportion of non-native residents has further increased, accounting for nearly 60% of the total figure. Home prices are not expected to go up in the short-term due to the oversupply of apartments in the city, according to an insider.
