In a city starved of green spaces, this penthouse in Thane, Maharashtra, boasts of expansive 10,000 sq ft terrace garden surrounding just 5,000 sq ft of actual livable space… |
Designed by Team Design helmed by principal architect Tasadduq Kherodawala, the fulcrum of the design is the terrace garden that surrounds the home, transforming a mere living space into an oasis of calm.
Situated on the 13th floor of a commercial building, the penthouse sits on a column grid framework and its residential layout posed a challenge. “We got an entire 4 feet height floor built to take in the terrace garden, re-route the services to the duct areas and to avoid any leakages to the floors below,” says Tasadduq.
The layout of this 6-bedroom penthouse along with a large dining, living, study, kitchen, servant quarters etc. is enveloped in greenery. All rooms open up into a wide corridor that overlooks a large garden to one side and a common terrace to the other. Guest bedrooms are discreetly oriented away from household activity.
Floor-to-ceiling glass doors in the entrance corridor provide sweeping views of the terrace beyond. White garden furniture adds a freshness quotient amidst the greens allowing the homeowners to enjoy coffee, conversations or even throw a party.
A neutral palette forms the backdrop for the home, while colour is infused through use of colourful rugs, jaali designs, soft furnishings and the like; warm and ambient lighting bestows a homely feel.
Power efficient LED fixtures, VRV, HVAC equipment, green certified sanitary ware and tap fixtures, besides its naturally green envelope ensure that it is a home that is nature-friendly in every possible way.
