Father's Day is June 15th, and it's almost here. Want to do something really special for dad? If so, taking Dad on a tour of the Grand Canyon would be an awesome pick. With so many tour options to choose from, you are certain to find something he enjoys. Grand Canyon tours set out from Las Vegas and from Tusayan, AZ at the South Rim (travelers coming from Phoenix, Williams, Sedona or Flagstaff usually pick these tours). The tours run on the same schedule on Father's Day. The holiday weekend is a busy one at the canyon, so don't put off booking your tour. Instead, book a week ahead if you can. Here's a summary of the canyon tours being offered: Chopper Tours When you take a chopper tour of the South Rim, you can choose a thirty or fifty minute tour. The shorter one takes you to the North Rim and back. The longer flight is the best one though because it covers the same ground as the shorter flight and adds much more. In fact, when you're done, the longer flight will have taken you over about 3/4 of the entire national park! West Rim helicopters take off from Las Vegas. These are some popular options for these tours: 1. Land at the canyon and tour the Grand Canyon Skywalk with a VIP pass 2. Choose a landing flight that takes you all the way to the canyon floor, the West Rim is the only place this is permitted. You can also include a raft ride along the smooth-water section of the Colorado River as well. Tours By Airplane Vegas offers plane tours to both the West Rim and South Rim. Touring the South Rim by plane is a good idea because it only takes about 60 minutes to get there by airplane and it takes 5 hours to get there by motor coach! Airplane tours to the West Rim can be aerial only or landing and they come with the same options and fun things to do as the helicopter tours. The good South Rim tours give you about 50 minutes of flight time. The route is basically the same as the 50-minute helicopter tour, but plane tours are a lot more affordable. The views from the plane are still spectacular, but they aren't as good as you get from the helicopter since choppers fly lower. Sightseeing helicopters also have huge wraparound windshields so you have an amazing unobstructed view of the ground below you. Motor Coach Tour buses depart from Vegas 365 days a year and head to the South Rim, which is 270 miles away, or go to the West Rim, which is 120 miles away. If you head to the South Rim, think about adding on a helicopter tour once you get there. There are lots of fun things to do at the West Rim too, such as flying in a helicopter to the canyon floor, walking on the Skywalk, and taking a boat ride. Both rims are fantastic to visit, but they are different, consider your dad's preferences when you choose. If he's into natural beauty, the South Rim's the ticket. If he is a thrill seeker and loves adventure, go to the West Rim. Rafting Tours The South Rim has a basic rafting tour that comes with a bus ride to your departure point and a deluxe version that transports you by plane and includes a fun jeep ride through Antelope Canyon. A terrific helicopter-rafting combo tour is available from Vegas. It begins with a chopper landing on the canyon bottom, and includes an 11-mile float down the Colorado River (the rafting segment starts at the base of Hoover Dam). Wrapping Up Father's Day is nearly here and these Grand Canyon adventures are so popular, you should book as soon as you can. By buying your tour online on the company's website, you get to buy your seats at the low Internet rate and save some money too. Here's to a great day at the Grand Canyon!
