Check out Chinavasion.com to learn more about its white-label products and bulk-order discounts! ">A lot of the gadgets and gizmos that exist today were conceptualized in fiction. Here are some examples of the hot tech of today that were just flights of fancy off of the silver screen a few short decades ago:

1. 3D Holograms – from “Back to the Future,” those 3D movies have become a staple in cinemas – so much so that most summer blockbusters always have a 3D counterpart for increased realism. We aren't quite there yet with the 3D hologram shark from Back to the Future 2, but we are getting *very* close to that tech!

2. Tablet Computers – from “Back to the Future,” lead hero Marty McFly is offered to sign a tablet to save an aging bell tower. The latest gadgets and gizmos of today, however, can do so much more than that!

3. Video Conferencing – from “Back to the Future,” not only did the movie predict the rise of video conferencing via Skype, ChatRoulette and Google+ in an everyday setting, but it also nailed the correct assumption that we use the 16x9 aspect ratio for wide-screen TV.

4. The Telescreen – from “1984,” these bi-directional TV screens could send and receive images. Many of the latest gizmos not only come with their own screen but with a microphone and digital camera - basically teleconferencing as long as you have Internet access.

5. Computer Chess - from "2001: A Space Odyssey," playing against AIs in chess was already being accomplished as far back as the 1970's. But only in the late 1990's were computers able to steadily outmatch their human counterparts. Even your average smartphone could probably stand toe-to-toe against grandmasters!

6. Gesture Controls - from "Minority Report," where computer controllers would make graceful arm gestures to manipulate holographic displays. Various touch-based gadgets and gizmos are already making use of gesture controls, with motion-capture devices like Microsoft's Kinect already capable of emulating the scenes in Minority Report.

7. GPS Navigation – from “Demolition Man,” the ability of a car to provide voice directions to the driver is something that is all too commonplace today. Many cool gadgets like smartphones and tablets have this capability as well.

8. Self-Driving Cars – from “Demolition Man,” one of Google’s main initiatives is to take the lead in self-driving cars. The company already has a few functioning prototypes, with a commercial version eyed to be available within the next few years.

9. Fingerprint-controlled gadgets – from “Demolition Man,” authentication using fingerprints and iris scans already exist to handle various tasks, from securing facilities to clocking in and out of work. Many of the cool gizmos we use today can even be unlocked using fingerprints or voice commands.

10. Robots - autonomous machines are a staple in science-fiction, from Greek and Jewish literature (Hephaestus' mechanical servants and the Golem) to more modern fare like "Star Wars" and "Terminator." We now have robots being used by the military and heavy industries, with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) being planned for commercial use and personal robots developing quickly for domestic purposes.

And there you have it – 10 technologies, gadgets and gizmos that have made the leap from our wild imaginations into to real life. Just imagine what technologies from today’s science fiction will make the same leap twenty, thirty years from now!
