Re-training for a new job when you’ve already had a career can be really tricky, and will require some serious consideration. It might involve giving up your job, or at the very least going part time. If you’re a parent you might need to give serious consideration how you’re going to balance your existing responsibilities with your studying (which means it’s not usually advisable to take on a full-time course whilst nursing a six month year old!). If you’re truly passionate about something though, we think you should go for it. This means that whether your passion is baking or fitness, teaching or childcare, you should pursue that passion. A level two fitness instructor course is the best way to get into a role as a gym instructor working either for yourself or as part of an in-house team. It’s the perfect job for someone who’s fed up of being chained to a desk, and who has seen the benefits of fitness and gym motivation themselves. The majority of people who take up these courses later in life do so because they have been influenced by someone else who works in this role, and they want to give something back. This can be that they have visited a gym to increase fitness, to lose weight, or even to help with recovery after an injury or surgery. Full or part-time? First you will need to decide how you want to study. Obviously a full-time course will get you the qualification more quickly, but have you got the time to spare? You will have very little space in your life to work, and with the necessary study time you might struggle with family time as well. Another issue is funding. Not only do the courses cost (and you’ll need a gym membership so you can practise), but if you need to give up your job then you will have to have both the money for the course saved, and enough income (be that from savings or your partner) to support you in the meantime. A more comfortable alternative is usually to reduce your work hours to part time whilst you’re studying a level two fitness instructor course. This will mean that you’re still getting an income of sorts, and if money gets a little tight you can put the course on hold for a little bit. Distance education is an excellent way to manage your level two fitness instructor course around when will suit you rather than having to work around fixed hours at a college, for example. The most important thing is that by studying towards a level two fitness instructor course you will be getting one step closer to the career you really want. Good luck!
