Roman blinds are an interesting product because while technically a blind, they fall somewhere between a roller blind and a curtain when it comes to appearance. They’re easy to clean and care for, and made to measure roman blinds look a lot more attractive than an ill fitted curtain or blind of any kind. |
A made to measure roman blind is made of fabric which is raised and lowered using a pull cord. They can be made in different ways which produces different styles. All of this particular type of window dressing use pleats to create an interesting visual effect when the blinds are lifted. From sheers to heavy fabrics like velvet, roman blinds can be made from anything at all and can suit any room at all.
These smart looking window dressings can be used all over your house, but what are the pros and cons?
Made to measure roman blinds are timeless (so long as you don’t pick a dated fabric). They have been around for decades in their current incarnation, and they don’t seem like they’re about to go out of style and time soon. The more classic the fabric you pick, the longer they’re likely to be suitable for. A more ‘trendy’ pattern will go out of style more easily, so is best avoided. They’re much more soft and luxurious than some other modern options (such as venetian blinds which come in wood or metal options).
Colour choses are endless because the blinds are made to your specification.
When closes, made to measure blinds offer a high degree of privacy and light blockage. Depending if you choose a heavy fabric and a lining or a softer fabric, sunlight can be allowed to filter softly into the room, whilst privacy is maintained. Blackout options are ideal for bedrooms, or when light blockage is the main purpose of the window dressing.
They are somewhat of an ‘all or nothing’ option, as they can’t be tilted to allow for privacy while still letting in light. This won’t be a problem for those used to curtains though, as the effect is very similar.
While elegant and timeless, these blinds aren’t made for high moisture rooms such as kitchens or bathrooms. Steam can cause mildew or mould to grow on the fabric, and odours or grease can splatter onto the material.
So, for the living room, bedroom, or dining room these blinds are perfect, just make a different choice in your kitchen and bathroom.
