Six Types of Tile For Kitchen Flooring

Business
For most families, the kitchen becomes a family gathering area - especially at mealtimes and during the holidays. Needless to say, the floor suffers a lot of wear and tear throughout the years. When you're looking at refinishing the flooring, consider the many different tile options that are available:

Ceramic

Ceramic is a rugged material. It withstands the constant traffic of many feet without too much trouble. If you like to coordinate colors and patterns, you can find matching ceramic tile for your countertops! You should note that ceramic can become quite cold during the winter months. So, if you live up north where the winter season gets cold and long, it may not be your best choice.

Vinyl or Linoleum

Vinyl and linoleum offer an affordable option for young families who intend to later redo their kitchen flooring. Since these composition materials aren't nearly as durable as stone or ceramic, you can't count on having the floor for a lifetime. However, they do provide a wonderful option if you can't invest in a more expensive floor.

Stone

Stones such as limestone, marble or granite offer amazingly durable floors. Barring any damage more severe than normal wear and tear, you can count on these floors lasting longer than the appliances in your kitchen! Stone tile provides a luxurious, hard surface. It's ideal for kitchens that open out onto a back patio or other outdoor area.

Quarry

If you like the look of natural stone, but don't want to purchase the real thing, quarry may be the right choice for your home. This substance is formed from clay and limestone, then molded and fired to resemble natural stone. It adds a touch of elegance to small entertainment areas. There are some downsides to quarry. It comes in a limited number of colors and for kitchen use, and it must be sealed to prevent damage from spills.

Bamboo

For families that are conscious of living "green," bamboo is a great option. Bamboo tile is light but durable. It's also dense enough to withstand spills. It should also withstand the weight of a plate, bowl or a serving dish falling on it too.

Cork

Cork is lightweight, yet durable flooring. It also stays warm in the winter - a great option for those who live up north. A warm floor in the kitchen on a cold winter's day is priceless! Cork is also easily refinished, and it's great for individuals who are standing at the counter for long periods of time. So, if you enjoy cooking gourmet meals, cork tile may be the perfect option for your kitchen!

Choosing the Right Material

With so many different options, how do you choose which one is best for you? You'll need to consider several items. First of all, consider your budget. How much do you have to spend on your new floor? Secondly, consider how much time you spend in the kitchen. If you spend a lot of time standing at the counter, you'll want to pick a classy, but comfortable material. And thirdly, you'll want to consider the colors or patterns that match your style.
