Titleist is known for bringing equipment to the tour prior to release as part of its "validation" process and is holding to that strategy with the new 714 iron line. The clubs--new MBs, CBs, AP1s and AP2s--are out on tour for the first time this week at the AT&T National. The Titleist AP1 714 is the biggest seller of the Titleist range and the long irons feature a lower CG thanks to a deeper topline undercut that frees up 10g of weight to move into the wider sole. The shorter irons from 7 to PW feature stronger lofts and a thicker face, a narrower sole and a narrower sole to make it easier to flight shots. The models have also undergone a sole grind improvement to improve the performance through the turf at impact. A 'pre-worn' leading edge reduces digging as the club enters the turf. This combines with added camber on the sole of the club to help the club to skip through impact creating a much better divot. The thinner upper cavity face and dual-cavity construction of the Titleist AP2 714 Irons creates additional discretionary weight to the club and this has helped me strike the ball much higher and purer than ever before – and pleasingly, with a little extra carry distance to boot. And the shorter irons have been just as effective. Thicker upper faces and narrower soles, on top of stronger lofts, make the 7-iron to PW much easier to flight. In terms of feel, everything is solid. The lower CG in the long irons and higher CG in the shorter irons feels like it improves my sweetspot location. Another positive for feel is the added camber, which helps control divot depth. A multi-layer medallion also fine tunes levels of vibration and aids terrific feedback through impact. While the AP2s have a similar amount of offset as before, the offset appears much better hidden through a hosel blend that makes the space between the hosel and leading edge less apparent. In all expect at least 10 players to use the new irons including Geoff Ogilvy, Troy Matteson and Jason Dufner. More golf clubs in http://www.shop60golf.co.uk/
