CHICAGO, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- All the 24 hostages held by an armed student at a Wisconsin high school have been released unharmed Monday evening, according to local media. The hostage crisis lasted more than five hours after the student armed with a gun burst into a classroom of Marinette High School and took 23 classmates and a teacher hostage there. Police said that a Marinette High School administrator called authorities just before 4 p.m., saying a student armed with a handgun had taken 23 classmates and a teacher hostage inside a classroom. Police Chief Jeffrey Skorik announced the development at about 8 p.m. that five out of the 23 students hostage were released. The young male student took over the classroom near the end of the school day on Monday, allowing no one to leave and eventually communicating with police through the female teacher by phone. Police said no one had been hurt or any shots had been fired, adding the suspect had no history with the police and his motivation remains unclear. A SWAT team arrived at the school Monday evening, and over 100 officers have rushed to the scene. The school has no metal detector, according to local offical. Local police said they have been able to identify the student and contacted his family since the stand-off started. The families of the hostages have gathered in the local courthouse for further information.
