Whether we like it or not, as a population we’re getting bigger. The average UK size is now a generous 37 inch waist. It’s not looking much better for women. The average female dress size has risen from a 12 to a curvy 16 in just a few years. With our more sedentary lifestyles it’s really no surprise. Many of us work at a desk, on a computer for around 40 hours a week, 48 weeks of the year. This has led to a generation who weigh a lot more than their parents, and offices which are ill equip to deal with their present work force. While many of us know that it’s really important that we have properly supportive ergonomic office chairs in order to give our backs the right support, it’s even more important that you’re provided with the right supplies if you’re a heavier individual. Most chairs are designed for people who weigh no more than 300 pounds (that’s 21 stone). While most users won’t be that heavy (the average for the UK is 13 stone), some will be, and that can mean that these chairs can break. 21 stone doesn’t necessarily mean fat, either. It means heavy. And while you could just be made of a lot of muscle, that doesn’t mean you’ll still be able to use a normal chair. If you’re tipping the scales, it’s time to start looking for chairs for overweight guys. Thankfully, in recent years plenty have come on the market. Chairs for overweight guys don’t need to look like they’re particularly robust, they just need to be up to the job. Most people who weigh a little more are already pretty aware of it, and won’t want to draw attention to it by having to request special equipment. If you order new furniture for each member of staff, simply create a form to be used when they join. If they require an office chair for overweight guys, they will need to tick a box which says which type of chair is most suitable for them. Are they particularly small, particularly tall, or overweight? Any of these factors can mean that specialist equipment is required, and if you’re not making a big deal over it nobody else will either. Help make your staff aware that you’re looking out for their best interest by buying things which will work better for them. If that’s chairs for overweight guys, make sure you’re able to find ones which fit in with the office décor! Joseph works for Norwich based Lockwood Hume.
