How to Build a Blinking Switch for LED Lights Making a LED flash when it is connected to a switch can be done by demonstrating how electricity and circuits work. In the past, LED lights would require the use of resistors that are connected to a battery. However, there are special LED lights that are designed to blink that you can easily wire to a switch. You can do this as a science project for school by first obtaining all of the necessary parts. Instructions 1 Connect the end of the red colored wire on the flashing LED to the “Positive” terminal of the battery holder. Secure the wire by soldering with a soldering iron or tightening a screw with the screwdriver. 2 Attach the black colored wire to the toggle switch. Secure the wire on the switch by tightening a screw or by soldering with the soldering iron. 3.Connect one end of the black electrical wire to the switch. Secure by soldering or tightening a screw. 4 Attach the other end of the black electrical wire to the “Negative” terminal of the battery holder. Secure by soldering or by tightening a screw. 5 Insert a battery into the battery holder.
