The benefits A recent research report suggests that taking aspirin daily (75 milligrams) significantly lowers the chances of getting stomach and bowel cancers. The research found that cancer incidences / deaths for stomach, bowel and oesophageal cancers were lowered by 30-40%. The evidence collected further suggests that those 50 years old or over taking aspirin for 10 years will prevent 122,000 cancer deaths over 20 tears. However, there would be no benefits seen from taking the drug until 5 years. At face value, the report from the Queen Mary University of London Annals of Oncology looks encouraging. Professor Jack Cuzic of the university goes on to say that "Taking aspirin daily looks to be the most important thing we can do to reduce cancer after stopping smoking and reducing obesity." Benefits versus harms Admittedly, the report does go on to say that the evidence for the benefits is not so clear when preventing other cancers such as lung and breast cancer. While 100's of other studies looking into the possible benefits of aspirin also reveal possible harms. The controversy giving the thumbs up to daily small doses of aspirin comes from its potential to cause internal bleeding (stomach and brain) and is potentially dangerous to smokers, excessive drinkers, and those on blood thinning medications. Other health risks from side-effects include ulceration, allergic reactions, ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and hearing loss... -All this is nothing new. Indeed, anyone choosing to take a daily aspirin would do well to first get advice from a Doctor. Overall I would like to make a few pertinent points in reflection of this study and other related studies. Overall, the suggested 122,000 lives saved (age group 50-64years) from the study were countered by 18,000 deaths due to side-effects. Even after medical advice, could you be certain that you're free from the possible side-effects? What if you're on the borderline of susceptibility? What if some unforeseen unexpected illness crops up over the years while taking daily aspirin that leads to serious or fatal illness from side-effects? Sure, as recommended, stay away from smoking and excessive drinking, but another point I would like to make is the fact that in any of this there was never a mention of the most important things of all that contribute to cancer prevention/reversal or good health and I doubt if anyone in the mainstream media covering will follow up. The most important things for optimum health, prevention and reversal of cancer and other diseases are: 1. ...Making sure you get good nutrition from food that is wholesome and natural. A high percentage diet of raw food is highly recommended with good clean drinking water. Anti-cancer foods include high levels of anti-oxidants, vitamin B17, vitamin B15 present in fruits and vegetables and 15-20 minutes daily doses of sunlight for vitamin D3. 2. Exercise regularly. Something like 20-30 minutes daily and in the long-term can make quite a difference for cancer prevention. 3. Maintain a positive state of well-being. Keep an awareness going, that the mind-body-spirit connection has quite an effect on your health. Be appreciative of the things you have. Live a life that's nurturing, wholesome an expressive... 4. Avoid domestic and environmental toxicity. This includes chemicals, harmful x-rays and radiation sources. I will leave you to do your own research where needed regarding the above 4 factors for cancer prevention and generally good health. Be persistent and persistent when applying.
