Stand 1 to 4 There are four MPST (“motorenprüfstand”—motor test stand) engine dynamometer stations. They serve the function of development, endurance testing and performance measurement. Three different types of gear can be used to meet the requirements of the diverse powertrain layouts. On motorcycles with a shaft drive, the original rear axle can be connected to the E-machine or bevel gears are used. For drives with a chain or belt, a belt drive is used. All four test benches are equipped with systems for the automated application of internal combustion engines. These enable detection and calculation of the necessary systems for optimal performance parameters. MPST 1 to 4: SPECS and FEATURES Loading Device Asynchronous squirrel-cage rotor Maximum Power: 440 kW Moment of Inertia: 0.92 kgm2 Limit of frequency: 30 Hz Dspace Real-Time Simulation Simulation of vehicle, driver, and route Simulation of control devices and sensors Automation System Recorder: max 1000 characters Stationary measurements: max 1250 channels Emission Measurement Technology Conditioning Facility Coolant, motor oil, transmission oil, fuel Transmission Belt drive ratio i=2.33 for chain or belt drive Bevel gear ration i=2.33 for shaft drive Structure of engine with rear axle drive Combustion Analysis Stand 5 The engine dynamometer MPST 5 tests the pre-development stages primarily. In addition, functional development, application, endurance testing and performance measurements can be performed on it. MPST5 is mainly used as pre-development testing facility and can be utilized to test trial engines, which still have no separate oil and water supply system. In that case, the built-in conditioning facilities take over the functions of the oil and water pumps. This makes it possible to develop, for example, pistons, combustion chambers, combustion processes and the gas exchange. The test rig is mainly designed for the operation of single-cylinder and small two-cylinder engines. MPST 5: SPECS AND FEATURES Loading Device: Asynchronous Maximum Power: 120 kW Moment of Inertia: 0.13 kgm2 Automation: Recorder: max 1000 channel Stationary measurements: max 1250 channels Emission Measurement Technology Conditioning Facility Coolant, motor oil, transmission oil, fuel Combustion Analysis These rigorous tests make your BMW motorcycle safe. You just need to have a good Carbon fiber helmet to avoid accidents now.—Ulf BÖhringer
