KABUL, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Afghan National Security Forces and NATO-led troops are keeping on pressure on Taliban insurgents throughout the country as spring commonly known as fighting season, spokesman of NATO-led International Security Assistance Forces ( ISAF) said on Monday. "What we are seeing right now in southern and eastern Afghanistan but particularly in the areas like Kunar province, is a series of partnered operations of the combined team of ISAF and Afghan national army in order to maintain the pressure on the insurgency, in order to solidify the gains we have made over the six to eight months," Brigadier-General Josef Blotz told reporters in a weekly press briefing here. He made the comments in the wake of overrunning of Taliban insurgents in Waygal district of eastern Nuristan province, some 180 km east of capital city of Kabul. "And this is of particularly importance in these days and weeks as we prepare very thoroughly for what people like to call the spring offensive of the insurgents, so we maintain still pressure, we are still active," the spokesman of over 140,000 NATO forces added. Taliban militants on March 29 overrun the Waygal district of Nuristan after police forces, according to media reports, retreated from the district to avoid civilian casualties in the militancy-hit province. The mountainous Nuristan and neighboring Kunar province has been branded as Taliban stronghold in eastern part of insurgency- hit central Asian state.
