Callaway Golf Company has announced the launch of the x-24, X Hot and Apex irons, which are designed to increase distance and improved performance. Callaway have branded this a 'Hot' version as they claim to have made the face a little thinner to transfer more clubhead speed to the ball and it certainly delivers. Callaway X-24 irons The Callaway X-24 is the worthy successor to the Callaway X-22 irons. The forgiveness is very good. The Callaway graphite shaft felt very stable and these irons will suit everyone from high single figures upwards. In addition to the small technological tweak, the main differences with the Callaway X-24 Hot iron are cosmetic with a ferule fitting on a longer hosel, which is unusal for Callaway irons, but should help with stability. Callaway X Hot irons Callaway has kept the proven features from these models in the thru-bore hosel and the Razr weighting on the back of the trailing edge to lower the centre of gravity. This is raised up so that the wide sole is kept to a good size and goes through the turf well, especially from the rough and semi-rough. The X Hot lofts are similar to the Callaway Razr X irons with the wedge at 44 degrees so you will probably need the A Wedge at 49 degrees too. Callaway Apex Pro irons The new ultra-soft 1020 Forged carbon steel body of Callaway’s Apex irons should also promote greater feel and responsiveness for precise distance control. Another key feature of the Apex range is a series of tungsten inserts that have been placed into the 3-5 irons. These strategically placed sole additions lower these clubs’ centre of gravity, resulting in increased forgiveness and making it easier to get the ball airborne. Short irons also benefit from a new, high-performance wide-spaced groove that delivers better control and more consistent spin from a range of different lies. All small things, but the most forgiving irons come together well in a stylish head that delivers excellent performance that will be hard to beat in the game improvement category.
