ATHENS, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Greek media blasted Prime Minister George Papandreou on Thursday over his abrupt announcement of a referendum over the EU bailout deal. Local dailies carried front page stories referring to "a humiliation of the country" by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy during talks held with Papandreou in Cannes Wednesday evening. "They annulled him and demanded a yes," reads the title of a story in leading daily "Eleftherotypia" (Free Press). Top-selling "Ta Nea" (The News) newspaper run a story titled "Rapid developments following the ultimatum." It mentioned a "revolt" of cabinet ministers and ruling party lawmakers under way on Thursday. "Harsh ultimatum given to Greece" was the headline on the front page of another major newspaper "Kathimerini" (Daily). "He leads Greece outside euro to a national catastrophe" was the headline of "Eleftheros Typos" (Free Press) newspaper. "Ultimatum from Cannes" wrote the front page title of finance daily "Kerdos" (Profit), while "Nautemporiki" newspaper run a story titled "Not one euro in aid to Greece until approval of EU package".
