This relates back to the old saying “monkey see, monkey do” and it still holds true in the modern society we live today. In order for your product, service or work to go viral it has to be seen by people, it has to be public in other words. A company that is great at this is Apple. That little Apple logo at the back of their laptops is a good example of this. If you sit in a coffee shop just look around and you will probably see one, if you watch TV there is usually one somewhere in a seen. I’m not talking about paid advertising here, just the free advertising they get from placing their logo on the right place on their products. Better still are the Apple headphones with the white cords, without seeing a logo or anything, everybody knows it’s Apple, better yet other companies don’t even try to copy these headphones, because people just assume the white cords must be Apple , so even if someone do copy them they will just do free advertising for Apple in effect. Another good example of something doing great because it is in the public eye, is the Livestrong yellow armbands. People in his camp was very sceptical about the idea , including Lance. His manager came up with the idea and they did it instead of a countrywide cycle tour to promote his foundation. They wanted Nike to produce a 100 000 of these in yellow, and most people thought they won’t sell all of it. The armbands came up and Nike ended up having to produce 5 million of them. Everywhere you looked you saw these yellow armbands, and since countless organizations have tried to copy the success of this initial campaign. Another good example is Movember, where men grow moustaches to show support for men's health and cancer. This started out very small in Australia, but because it was something so public and for such a good cause, it soon caught on. Today thousands of men all over the world grow moustaches during the month of November and the movement gets bigger every year. Have you ever seen how some food trucks are very busy and others serving similar food are not. You might think the quality of the food is the reason and mostly it is, but in New York there is a family with two food trucks serving the same food in the same area, the one is extremely busy and the other not at all. People look at other people in public to see what to do. This is why anti-drug campaigns don’t work, don’t tell people what others are doing if you don’t want them to do it themselves. It goes without saying, but if people can’t see what you have to offer there is no way it can go viral. Luckily we have a lot of help in this area with the internet and websites like Viral Content Buzz to get your work in front of people.
