Saree stands for elegance, culture and tradition. Indian women, irrespective of their class, age and region, are eternally in love with sarees. Sarees come in countless varieties of fabrics and patterns. Each state of India has its own speciality in sarees. Sarees can have all sorts of looks: traditional, modern, party, casual and bridal. They are perfect to wear to any place: home, office, festivals, religious functions and weddings. They are tremendously versatile and simply beautiful in so many ways.

Classifying sarees is a challenging task. Only sky's the limit when it comes to various styles and designs. However, their categorisation based on fabrics is less complex and easy to understand. Silk, cotton, chiffon, brasso, georgette, net, crepe and tissue are some of the popular textiles that are used for sarees.

Silk

Silk sarees are graceful and have rich texture to them. They have unique shine and smoothness which set them apart from rest of the types. There are numerous varieties of silk, each with its own speciality. Banarasi silk sarees made in Varanasi are considered to be the richest of all. They have heavy silver and golden thread work. Kanjivaram saree from Tamil Nadu is known for its rich quality and wide contrast borders. Paithani silk saree from Maharashtra is famous for its peacock motifs. Raw and Tussar silk saree from Madhya Pradesh is delicate and has a natural golden hue to it. Kantha silk sarees of West Bengal are known for intricate embroidery depicting flowers, birds animals and human figures. Patola saree made in Gujarat is famous for its bright colours and geometrical motifs.

Cotton

Cotton fabric is durable and can be dyed easily in any colour. It is considered to be one of the most versatile cloths. It can be blended with other materials like silk or used to make 100% pure cotton sarees. Maheshwari, Chanderi, Jamdani and Kota are some of the popular ones.

Chiffon

Chiffon is a very lightweight material. It belongs to the class of silk crepe fabric. Chiffon sarees are easy to drape and a convenient daily wear.

Brasso

This type is perfect as party or evening wear.They have beautiful motifs embossed all over them.

Georgette

Georgette is another kind of crepe fabric which is very lightweight. Georgette sarees exhibit numerous colours and designs.

Net

Delicate net sarees have gained immense popularity due to unique look they create. They are great party wears. They have intricate work of colourful threads, studs and laces.

Crepe

Crepe saree is usually the textured one with creased surface. It is also available in varieties where it has smooth feel. It can be made up of natural or artificial fibres.

Tissue

Tissue is made up of thin strands of metallic yarns. It has glossy finish and is usually transparent. Sarees made up of tissue are perfect for wearing to parties.

Recently, half sarees or indo-western sarees are gaining popularity due to ease of draping they offer, yet the traditional version is simply unmatched by any of these newer ones. you can buy Sarees online are very simple and easy, yet they will continue to evolve taking up new forms while maintaining their classic charm.
