Each one of us were taught at school that clothing is one of the three basic needs of the mankind. Fair enough, it is a lot more than that though. Clothes speak a lot about the personality of the wearer. Clothes have evolved with the progress of human race, making their way through several eras, taking new forms each time. Our present day clothing, however, can be divided into three major categories depending upon the sequence in which they are worn: base layer, middle layer and outer layer. Base Layer The base layer of clothing is consists of undergarments. Innerwear are as important as outerwear since they are directly related to our comfort of whole day. Apart from this, they are supposed to accentuate appeal of outerwear at times. For example, women’s multi coloured slips are worn beneath translucent tops to create fabulously fashionable look. Innerwear for men, women and kids are mostly made up of soft cotton blends to provide optimum ease. Thermals are considered to be the part of base layer as well. Jockey, Enamore and Lovable are some of the leading brands which specialize in manufacturing high quality innerwear. Middle Layer Majority of the clothes come under this category. It can be divided into two subcategories as tops and bottoms. Women’s tops include t-shirts, shirts, blouses, tunics and kurtis. Jeans, jeggings, capris, palazzos, skirts, trousers, salwars and churidars are some of the bottomwear. Sari is an inseparable part of any Indian woman’s wardrobe. Women can choose from numerous varieties of sarees to wear for formal shirts, casual, daily or festive occasions . Women’s dresses and jumpsuits are gaining popularity as casual wear and leisurewear. Men have t-shirts, shirts and kurtas to wear as tops, while trousers, jeans, pyjamas, dhoti and lungi are some of the bottom wears. Chinos, khakis and cargo pants are additional options for men who care about style. Boys and girls have similar options for clothing as men and women, but they come in more interesting prints and peppy colours. Middle layer of clothing for men, women and kids can be further classified based on designs, patterns, prints and occasions or places they are suitable for. This category has highest amount of diversity when it comes to fabrics, styles, patterns, prints and colours of clothes. Outer Layer Unlike base and middle layer of clothes, the outer layer is not mandatory to wear. It is a matter of individual choice and necessity. Sweaters, coats, blazers, jackets, cardigans and shrugs are few of the outerwears. Blazers and coats are mostly the parts of formal attire or uniform. Jackets, pullovers and cardigans have casual look. Sweaters are the default necessity for the winter season. Each one of these exhibit great variety of lengths, patterns, styles and designs to suit everyone’s taste and requirement. Outer layer of clothing can add unique charm to different outfits. Add-Ons Different types of outfits can be taken to whole new level of style with various accessories like scarves, caps, ties and belts. Such add-ons are must for certain outfits, for example, a formal attire is incomplete without a proper tie and belt. Stoles, socks and hand-gloves are some of the accessories which may accompany the main attires. In present times of globalisation, people across the planet have started picking and blending styles from different regions as per their choices. People belonging to different cultures, professions and classes are growing more and more conscious about their appearance. Textile and fashion industries have immense possibilities and avenues in this modern era. Today, clothing has certainly become a lot more significant than just a basic need.
