Almost all the couples in the world would wish to have a baby of their own. However, not all are so fortunate to do so. Surrogacy comes of great help to such parents. Not just couples, there are many individuals also who are opting for this solution to have a baby of their own rather than adopting, if they do not wish to get married and have a partner. So it has turned out to be a great single parenting solution as well.
Now what is this surrogacy all about? It is the process when a woman agrees to carry & give birth to a child who is artificially transplanted in her womb. Though it gives a lot of hope & happiness to the parents who are not able to give birth to their own babies, it has its own complexities. The first complication is that it is emotionally very intense and also has legal complications. Now what is the process of surrogacy? Surrogacy Process can be done in two ways- Straight Surrogacy and host surrogacy. Straight Surrogacy is the one in which the intended father’s sperms are inseminated artificially through IUI & surrogate mother is made to conceive through this insemination. Here the mother has to apply for adoption of the kid. Host surrogacy, on the other hand, is the one the donated embryo is carried by the surrogate mother to term. This ensures that the intended parents are the biological parents also.
The Surrogacy success rate is quite difficult to ascertain as it is dependent on a lot many factors like:
•The ability of the surrogate mother to become pregnant •The Egg donor’s age & health •The fertilization procedure to be successful •Intended parent’s gamete’s quality •Health of the surrogate mother •Genetics of the people involved
A type of surrogacy that is worth discussing is Sex surrogacy. It is the one in which a surrogate mother attends a few surrogacy sessions with the client to attain the state of pregnancy & to conceive. However, sometimes a male also acts as the surrogate to help the intended mother conceive. These sessions are attended by the couples together or the mating partner alone. Being a sex surrogate requires no additional qualification or training other than being in good health. Though many sex surrogates take up certification of sexologists to learn & under the process well & to attain the state of pregnancy with high success rate. However, it is not legal in all the countries to be a sex surrogate or to have this form of surrogacy as it is considered as equivalent to prostitution and had given the world epidemic of AIDS. Thus to reduce the phenomenon, it had been made necessary to achieve a certification course to be a sex surrogate. However, sex surrogacy legal in few places & there one can easily find out a surrogate mother & thus giving a ray of hope to so many people.
