How to Crate Train a Dog Professionally

Pets

There are several responsibilities that come in owning a puppy or a dog. One of these obligations is proper crate training. If humans have houses, then dogs also have crates where they eat, rest, and hide in times of danger. Crate training a puppy is a difficult activity. Nevertheless, the correct knowledge on how to crate train a dog will certainly make every pet owner triumphant in this undertaking.

Finding out the breed of your puppy or dog is the first tip for successful crate training. It would be better to have a medium-sized crate if your pet belongs to the small dog breed. The crate of this size is adequate for your pet to do its routine just like sleeping, sitting, standing, and moving around. Nonetheless, American/English Foxhound and Golden/Labrador Retriever, which are big dogs must have huge crates.

The next thing you have to do is to get all the essential crate add-ons after you have identified the right crate size for your pet. You have to prepare crate mats, stainless steel cups and pails, and crate pads. Your selected crate should have a solid foundation and should be convenient to use. Moreover, a dog crate with simple to lock door should be your choice. This way, you can quickly lock in the dog or take him out.

The second tip on how to crate train a dog is to carefully introduce him to his crate. This is to get your pet comfortable to his new home, according to dog experts. The puppy/dog must stay inside the crate for a couple of hours. If the crate is big enough, then feel free to enter as well. With this, your pet won't be afraid if you lock or leave him inside the crate during crate training because you are with him.

The third thing that you have to remember on how to crate train a dog is to let them have the food they need inside the crate. Thus, there must be a pail and a stainless steel cup next to his crate where you can put his food and water. Additionally, leave your pet inside the crate while he is sleeping. The first few days of crate training normally involves whining and crying of your pet. You must stay firm no matter how hard it is for your dog to adjust into his new environment. Say ‘no' and make him get back to sleep. Remember that you are the dog's master so he has to adhere to what you say.

The fourth tip when crate training is to let your pet crated for couple of minutes when you're at home or going out. In case you are just at home, then try to check him once in a while. Get back in less than an hour if you are planning to go out. Let him out of the crate for him to take time messing around once you got home.

Crate training a puppy is a challenging task but somehow, it could provide you pleasure. You may consider a few free videos online if you don't know how to crate train a puppy.
