Pets

Having a puppy or dog as a pet comes with several obligations. These involve proper crate training to your dog or puppy. If humans have houses, then dogs also have crates where they eat, rest, and hide in times of threat. Crate training a puppy could be hard and laborious. Even so, you will be on your way to success when you're backed up with the right knowledge on how to crate train a dog.

The first suggestion for successful crate training is determining the breed of your puppy or dog. When your pet is classified as a small dog breed, then setting up a medium-sized crate is a smart course of action. This size assures a comfortable place for your dog to sleep, sit, move around and stand. Nevertheless, American/English Foxhound and Golden/Labrador Retriever, which are big dogs should have huge crates.

Once the ideal crate size is identified, acquiring the needed crate accessories is the next thing you need to do. You have to prepare crate mats, stainless steel cups and pails, and crate pads. The dog crate of your liking should be durable and simple to use. Moreover, its door must be easy to lock and unlock to avoid hassles when securing the dog in or taking him out.

The second tip on how to crate train a dog is to get him familiar with the crate. This is to get your pet comfortable to his new home, according to dog experts. Let your dog or puppy spend few hours within the crate. If you can fit inside the crate, then why not go inside and accompany your pet. With this, your pet won't be afraid if you lock or leave him inside the crate during crate training because you are with him.

Providing food to your puppy inside the crate is the third tip on how to crate train a dog. With that in mind, you should put a stainless steel cup and pail in the crate, where you will put his food and water. Additionally, let him get enough rest inside the crate. Your pet will certainly whine or cry during the first few days of crate training. This is where firm discipline matters, especially if the dog begins to bark and make disobedient moves. Say ‘no' and make him return to sleep. As his master, he has to pursue what you say.

If you are at home or going out, then simply let your dog crated for a short time when crate training. Checking him once in a while must be carried out if you happen to be just at home. If you intend to go out, then make sure to be back in less than an hour. When you are back, get him out of the crate and let him play.
