For many years, older people have been considering going to a care home or hire the services of home care. If you are one of them or if you have a family member that needs any of the two services, you have to compare care homes and home care and which option would bring positive effects on you or your family member. Let’s compare care homes first from home cares. Care homes are residential facilities that offer accommodation to older people (including their spouses, if they wish to) and have all their need met by the staff. These facilities have two categories: A care facility without nursing care, where they only provide assistance when it comes to performing activities of daily living; and care facilities with nursing care, where Registered Nurses and care assistants provide the care their residents need. A home care compare to a care home doesn’t require the older person to live in a residential facility. Home care workers visit the older person in his/her own residence to assist him/her in performing her daily activities. There are also those who provide meals on wheels and household equipment to help them do their everyday household chores. Now, let’s compare care facilities and home care when it comes to its pros and cons to help you weigh in on what’s really best for you or your loved one. With care facilities, you can be sure that trained staff are always ready, you can be sure that you will have company, you can join in their organized activities and that monthly dues and other things you worry about your home is no longer much of your concern. The other side of care home is that your belongings should fit in just one room, you might think that you can no longer do what you really want to do and you might not get along with other residents. Home care compare to care home gives the older person a sense of familiarity in that older person can stay in his/her own home. The care and support he/she receives are within the person’s control. The other side about this kind of service is that carers only come in limited time, which might make you feel lonely. In addition, you might not like the carer that is assigned to you.
