The Xiamen-based Chinese-language Xiamen Economic Daily has recently compiled a list of the 4 relatively safe bathing beaches and 6 dangerous bathing beaches for summer swimming in Xiamen. The list, which is made based on a survey among on-site swimmers, local fishermen, and beach management staff, is for reference only, the newspaper said, as it’s not based on accurate scientific research and investigation. WOX reminds our fellow readers to pay extra attention to the hidden dangers of swimming in the sea, choose a right time, right place to swim and take protective measures. Data released by the city’s relevant departments showed that several were drowned in the over 20 drowning accidents happened in the city since June. The 4 relatively safe bathing beaches for summer swimming 1. Gangzaihou and Dadeji beach on Gulangyu Island
Located near the Bright Moon Garden or Haoyue Yuan (???), the Dadeji bathing beach has a sandy clean beach and a bay of grayish green seawater. Shade covers most parts of the beach after 13:00pm.
Gangzaihou bathing beach is located to the west of the Shu Zhuang Garden (????). Surrounded by vast sea water, the gentle beach draws lots of swimmers both in summer and winter. 2. Huangcuo and Taiyang Wan beach (????????) Report released by the Xiamen Marine Environmental Forecasting Station showed the sea water off the two beaches is superior, and a moderate flow also help make them the most suitable bathing beaches for sea swimming in Xiamen. 3. Pearl Bay Beach (???????) The flow near Pearl Bay Beach or Zhenzhu Wan Beach is slow, but the open and vast sea could easily lure swimmers to swim outside. A life-saving station is built here, which operates from 1st May to the end of October. Daily working time is 3 hours before the high tide to1 hour after the low tide. Swimmers are not advised to swim here in night time or when there are no rescue workers. 4. Guanyinshan Beach (???????) There are free shower spots, lifesaving equipments and other facilities here. The bathing beach is opened daily according to the tide time, usually about four hours a day. Swimmers are advised to swim in the 200m x 300m circle marked by buoys. The 6 beaches that are not suggested for swimming The following 6 beaches are not suggested for summer swimming due to bad water quality, complicated flow, hidden rocks, high accident incidence or other various reasons. 1. The beach near the ”One Country, Two Systems” signboard (“????” ?????), 2. Baicheng Beach (????), 3. Wuyuan Bay (?????), 4. Haiwan Park (??????), 5. Zeng Cuo An beach (?????), 6.
