Mold is also important in nature due to the fact that it helps to break down dead organic matter such as dead trees and fallen leaves. However, indoor mold should be avoided. Mold consists of small reproductive cells which are called spores. These spores spread through the air and attach to people’s clothes, shoes, skin, etc….Mold is attracted to dampness and water. Mold is difficult to stop because it enters into your house through the air conditioning, ventilation, dryers, open windows, heating, and even the fur of your pets. You cannot stop it from entering your house but you can take precautions in helping prevent mold: • Make sure you immediately fix or clean up any water problems. • Make sure your clothes are never left lying around damp. • Regular home cleaning and maintenance. • Use various essential oils to help prevent or kill mold. Blackmold.com states that there are 16 species of mold that are toxic. These toxins when inhaled or absorbed into the skin can cause pneumonia, become an irritant, trigger auto-immune illness, cause allergies, skin rashes, asthma, etc… Health dangers lurking in your home can be found in your water. The water you drink and shower with daily. Water is a source for life and sustains us. It is important that you drink water daily but drinking the right kind of water is vitally important. Research indicates that up to 700 chemicals have been found in tap water. More than 80 regulated chemicals are found in water. An example: Arsenic is a health danger lurking in your home. Arsenic is a heavy metal toxin and is very dangerous. You are unable to taste or smell this toxin. According to the EPA, arsenic enters into your drinking water supply from natural deposits in the earth or from agricultural and industrial practices. When regulating how much arsenic is allowed in your drinking water, the EPA allows 10 parts arsenic per billion in water. This helps protect you. However, studies are showing that some geographical water supplies are exceeding these numbers due to environmental issues. Dangers can also possibly be found in your clothes. Triclosan Triclosan is a classified pesticide. It is considered a synthetic antibacterial ingredient that contributes to the formation of resistant forms of bacteria. It is an ingredient used as a bactericide in personal care products such as toothpaste, deodorant, antibacterial soap, cosmetics and more. It is also found in clothing. It is a preservative added to products which is not always labeled. This ingredient is used to help your products last longer, protecting or reducing bacterial contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that "Triclosan is not currently known to be hazardous to humans." However Mercola states in a 2012 article that Triclosan has been linked to heart disease and heart failure in a new study. Some studies have shown that Triclosan contributes to creating bacteria resistant to antibiotics. Health dangers lurking in your home can be found in some food’s you eat. High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) Since the 1980’s, table sugar in many products you eat has been replaced by High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). This product seems to be relatively cheap to produce and can be found in many sweetened beverages, dairy products, cereals, backed goods, and canned fruits. Sweetened beverages seem to have the highest amounts of HFCS. Research shows that HFCS is chemically similar to sugar; however there is concern that our bodies handle this ingredient different than regular sugar. According to the Mayo Clinic, the increased use of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) in our foods has possible connections to the following health issues. We do know that too much of any type of sugar could lead to these health issues. • Diabetes • Weight Gain • Type 2 Diabetes • Metabolic Syndrome • High triglyceride levels One research study found alarming amounts of mercury within HFCS. In a study published in 2009 in “Environmental Health,” researchers identified mercury, which is a toxic substance, in nine out of 20 commercial HFCS samples.
