The light volatile move upwards and the char moves downstream for the next process. • Reduction process takes places where the char is acted upon by the carbon dioxide and steam to give carbon monoxide and hydrogen • Finally oxidation takes place where the reduced char is burnt by blowing air into the reactor. During the process of oxidation, controlled steam is injected so that carbon gets oxidized in the presence of steam so as to generate carbon dioxide and hydrogen.
