Coal Gasification Technology is a blessing for industries using power generators in the manufacturing process. It is technique to generate power from low grade coal. Sectors like ceramic industry, steel plants, glass-making houses, chemical industry etc largely depend upon gasification skill and its related machinery equipment. Coal Gasification as Alternative Power Generation Option The rising inflation for oil and natural gas is challenging industry owners each new day. Therefore, the current global economy is making coal gasification a promising alternative for power generation. It ensures high efficiency and supports environmental ethics than the outdated pulverized fuel technology. Generally, when coal is burned, it produces sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and other gases. The gaseous extract leads to smog and acid rain which is harmful for life on the Earth. Coal gasification is an environment-friendly process which removes the sulfur dioxide, mercury and carbon dioxide from the syngas before it is combusted. Since the syngas is cleaner than raw coal, minimal quantity of nitrogen oxide and other pollutants are produced during the combustion process. Gasifier in Coal Gas Technology Coal Gasifier is the key component in this technology. It is gas generator equipment which uses the mixture of air and steam as gasifying agent and coal as fuel. The carbonaceous product undergoes four processes: • The producer gas flow through the reactor and dries up the injected coal • The heated coal releases char and volatile resulting in up to 70% loss of coal. The light volatile move upwards and the char moves downstream for the next process. • Reduction process takes places where the char is acted upon by the carbon dioxide and steam to give carbon monoxide and hydrogen • Finally oxidation takes place where the reduced char is burnt by blowing air into the reactor. During the process of oxidation, controlled steam is injected so that carbon gets oxidized in the presence of steam so as to generate carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Coal Gasification and it Popularity in Industry In recent years, the gasifier technology has become a soul for industries, particularly, steel industry. The reason is its economic potential as compared with high oil prices. However, there are certain technical challenges in making the work process easy and reliable. Since the technology of gasification is yet to become mature across the globe, not all the gasifier manufactures and suppliers are dependable. Therefore, it a great task for industry owners to find out power engineers who can assure long-term commitment in terms of capability and technical support. While looking out for gasification experts is a toilsome task, one better way is to visit the sites installed with coal gas stations. Gasifier companies with good reputation are likely to have their clients across the globe. Industry owners looking forward to adopt the technology can plan their trip to the producer gas plants so as to analyze the overall work-process. There are companies which offer experts at different stages, right from planning to installation to commissioning of coal gas plant. However, it is advisable to gain adequate information about the company before making any business decision. CASE Group in India is a certified supplier of coal gasifier as per the varied business requirement. The company offers robust coal gas technology for Rotary Kiln, Insulator Ceramic Industry, Steel Industry and others. Till date, it has successfully installed more than 200 gasifiers in steel industry, the application being majorly for Reheating Furnaces for Rolling Mills
