UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon has left for Los Cabos, Mexico, where he will participate in a meeting of the Group of 20 (G20), UN spokesman Farhan Haq said Monday. "The secretary-general left on Monday morning for the G20 meeting in Los Cabos, Mexico," Haq said at a daily news briefing. "In the afternoon, he was due to participate in the first plenary session on The Global Economy and Framework for Strong, Sustainable, and Balanced Growth, and he is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with a number of leaders." The heads of states and governments of G20 countries have met periodically since the emergence of the global financial crisis in 2008. Haq said that on June 19, Ban will attend a plenary session at the G20 meeting on Strengthening the International Financial Architecture and the Financial System and Promoting Financial Inclusion. "After his time in Mexico, the secretary-general will leave for Rio de Janeiro for the Rio +20 meeting from 20-22 June," Haq noted.
