Bring along your favorite MP3 player or your phone and create a playlist of songs that remind you of friends and family back home. Songs can help to set the mood of a personal atmosphere and break the silence, especially for those traveling solo on business. 4. Put personal items on your nightstand. This can take away from the generic feeling of furnishings provided by most hotels. 5. Learn the names of the staff. Ask the hotel's staff their names when they're helping you out during your stay. It will give you a sense of belonging and safety, making you feel as if you're with friends instead of strangers. Find a hotel you really enjoy and receive excellent service from, and stay there each time you visit that city.
