So, if you're a southerner heading north, you can get in on the action too. Get in a great day on the slopes or trails, and then enjoy some hot coca or a nice cocktail by the fire at night. Visit a Museum After a few cold days filled with outdoor activities, something a little indoor-oriented might be right up your alley. Research local museums in the area-you might be surprised at what a great time you could have while learning about an area's beginnings. Many smaller towns have a really unique history, and the museum volunteers are usually wonderful at telling the compelling story. While this may not be a normal activity for you and your family, a museum stop can make a really fun and quirky addition to your trip. Tubing and Sledding Whether you take advantage of one of the hundreds of specialty slopes at ski resorts in the North, or you coast down a random snow covered hill, going tubing or sledding is a must-do on your trip. If you're interested in something a little different, check out recreational areas near your destination; you might even find toboggan runs! Dog Sledding For a really unique addition to your winter vacations, harness your inner adventurer and go for a dog sledding ride. There's nothing quite like a pack of huskies pulling you through picturesque, snowy landscapes. Be sure to bring your camera, and your commanding voice, so you can holler, "Mush!"
