Well the first thing to highlight is why this is a very important question. With the lack of government licensing of locksmiths in the UK (meaning that anyone can trade/advertise as a locksmith irrespective of competence, background or motive!) it is important to make sure that you are going to use a reputable and professional locksmith. So how you find a good Locksmith is indeed a question most will ask when first looking. So How do you locate a good good locksmith to hire? Always look for 3rd party approval One way we’d suggest when looking to hire a locksmith is for 3rd party approval. The MLA Approved Company scheme means that the locksmith company has been vetted, is regularly inspected and employ a qualified locksmith (i.e. somebody with an exam based proof of competence). If the potentially hired locksmith has claims of approval by other associations then you may want to check what’s actually involved in getting this approval as there are unfortunately some associations where logo use and web promotion is available through payment alone, thereby meaning their “accreditation” actually doesn’t mean that much. Don’t forget, locksmiths do far more than just house locks and keys. It’s important to think about the kind of work you need doing as lots of locksmiths specialise in particular aspects of the job, so for example if you need keys cut and programmed for your vehicle then make sure you use a locksmith with auto locksmith skills, or if it’s a safe that you need opening then make sure the locksmith has good safe technician skills.
